Five Benefits of Our New Spray Foam Insulation for Your Shed

Stoltzfus Structures is pleased to announce that we’re now adding a new Standard Feature to all our Outdoor Retreat structures. All structures in this product category will now include 2” of R-14 spray foam insulation under the floor. (*NOTE: greenhouses, hunting blinds and stargazer sheds do NOT include the spray foam insulation)

If you’ve never heard of spray foam insulation or aren’t sure of the benefits, we’re here to help. Here’s what you need to know about spray foam and how it can end up saving you hundreds in energy costs and improve the longevity of your shed.

What is Spray Foam Insulation?

Spray foam insulation is a specialized form of insulation sprayed onto the exterior walls and roof of a building for thermal and sound reduction. The most common type of spray foam insulation is called closed-cell spray foam, which uses a continuous stream of air to create an even layer of insulation.

How Does Spray Foam Insulation Work?

Spray foam insulation works by creating an airtight seal between the wall and the spray foam. This seal prevents heat and moisture from escaping while preventing noise from entering the building. In addition to reducing energy costs, spray foam insulation can also help improve your home’s overall comfort levels.

Why Is Spray Foam Insulation Ideal for Sheds?

The main reason why spray foam insulation is ideal for sheds is that it provides thermal and sound reduction benefits. In cold climates, spray foam can help keep your shed warm in the winter, while in hot climates, it can help reduce noise levels. In addition, closed-cell spray foam offers superior protection against moisture and mold, two common problems in sheds.

What are the Benefits of Spray Foam Insulation for Your Shed?

The benefits of spray foam insulation for your shed include:

1. Keeps Your Space Warmer in the Winter

One of the main benefits of spray foam insulation is that it can help to keep your space warmer in the winter. This is because it helps to trap heat inside the shed, preventing it from escaping and causing cold temperatures.  Spray foam insulation has and R-value per inch of 7 which is the highest on the market.

2. Reduces Noise and Energy Loss in the Summer

Another benefit of spray foam insulation is that it can help reduce noise and energy loss in the summer because it forms an air-tight seal between the inside and outside environment, helping to keep temperatures cooler and limiting sound infiltration. Plus, since it’s a thermal insulator, it can also help to retain energy in your shed during hot weather conditions.

3. Preserves Structural Integrity

Spray foam insulation effectively protects your shed’s structural integrity by forming a airtight seal between the inside and outside environment that is 24 times less permeable to air infiltration than other types of insulation.

While leaks or cracks in any of our buildings are unlikely, they’re not unheard of.  In areas covered by the spray foam, even the smallest of gaps becomes virtually impenetrable to things that could otherwise cause damage or deterioration.

Consider yet another unexpected benefit due to the natural curing properties of spray foam insulation after application.  The hardened foam increases the rigidity of the structure and improves its stability and strength.

4. Improves the Overall Condition of Your Shed

Spray foam insulation can improve the overall condition of your shed by reducing moisture levels, improving air quality, deterring pests and preventing mold from growing. In addition, since it’s resistant to water damage, this type of insulation can increase a building’s lifespan significantly over standalone/uninsulated traditional building materials like lumber or plywood.

Spray foam insulation will not absorb water in the event of flooding or exposure to prolonged periods of rain.

5. Saves Money on Energy

One of the best benefits of spray foam insulation for sheds is that it can help to save you money on your energy bills. Since it’s a thermal insulator, it can reduce the amount of heat that’s lost through your shed walls and ceilings, resulting in significant savings on your energy bill over time.

How Much Does Spray Foam Insulation Cost?

Our spray foam insulation is now standard in our Outdoor Retreat sheds, which means your added cost is $0!

This type of insulation is made up of an inert polymer which gives it an indefinite lifespan.  It lasts for years and performs at optimal levels without needing to reinsulate.  It’s a Standard Feature the ‘pays’ you back in benefits for years.

Spray foam insulation will be available as an (optional) upgrade on any other shed or garage (*except structures built on site).  We can put it on walls, floors and ceilings.  The cost is based on the square footage of the area you want covered.
