What is the Shed Delivery Process?
Ordering a shed sounds like a simple task, but with the need for permits, preparing your property, and knowing what to order, it can be tricky. Follow this guide to understand what is involved with ordering and having a shed delivered to your property. Stoltzfus Structures’ goal is to make your shed delivery process as easy as possible, so you can safely store your belongings or decorate a backyard getaway.
What Do You Want/Need?
Determining what you want and/or need in a shed is the most important thing to consider before talking to our team. We have sheds for Storage, Gardening, as well as a higher profile shed that has a much more upscale appearance, known as an Elite shed. In our more storage-focused sheds, you can find styles like the Mini barn, A-Frame, Quaker, Hywall, Modern Lean-To, Dormer, Timber Frame, Hip Roof, a Firewood shed, and even those that are needed on larger areas of property, like a Concession stand and a Self-Storage shed. If your main priority is to have a shed for gardening tools, we offer styles such as the A-Frame, Quaker, Hywall, Carriage, Charm, Transom Dormer, Manor, Hip Roof, and Cottage. Lastly, looking at the higher profile options, you will see the Garden A-Frame, Garden Hywall, Garden Carriage, and the Manor Elite shed.
Need It Quickly?
Sometimes we need something right away, like you just bought a new lawn mower and realized you have no way of storing it. If you don’t have the time or ability to talk through customizations with our sales team, we understand, and have a collection for you to look through when you need a structure in a pinch. Check out our In-Stock to see what we have on the lot, and what sizes and styles we have available. Look for the yellow block in the corner of some of the in-stock sheds to see if that structure is discounted, because who doesn’t love a discount? A 10% deposit is needed to claim your shed, then 50% of the payment is due before delivery. Delivery costs are not included in In-Stock sheds due to the varied prices based on your location. Contact us or select “Get a Quote” on any of our In-Stock sheds to find out your delivery costs.

Permits and Clearances
Before purchasing your shed, we ask that you investigate your local area’s building codes to make sure your property can have a shed placed, as well as get all permits needed to place one there, if applicable. They will also advise on “setback” requirements based on your local codes, which determine where on your property a shed can be placed safely. Based on your property, such as if you live in a neighborhood or on a residential farm, some rules may change, and you will need to check how your shed will also be classified, whether that is a temporary or permanent structure.
Unless we can pull permits for our area, you have the responsibility of gathering these permits to make sure we are following your area’s legal codes before starting to build your shed. Building specs may be requested to receive a permit, and if so, you may request them from our team, and we will provide all building specs to you.
Before delivery occurs, we ask that you check your property to make sure our delivery crew can get through without hassle. Our crew needs an opening about 2-3’ wider than your shed to safely weave through obstacles. If there is a fence where your shed will need to be maneuvered around, we ask you to remove your fence posts, as we do not handle removing fences. If we are unable to deliver your shed due to the property challenges, there will be an additional charge.
What Needs to be Done for a Smooth Delivery?
As mentioned before, if we are unable to get to your property easily to deliver your shed, there will be an additional charge, but there is also another option to build your shed on-site. This is an additional charge due to bringing all shed sections separately and needing more crew on site to help with your shed’s construction. Check out this video to see how a shed is built on-site at a customer’s house.
Preparing your space in preparation for your shed to be placed should be completed before the delivery, so the crew has a finished pad to place the shed on when arriving. Stoltzfus Structures works with a site preparation company, but if you’d like to do the site prep yourself or with an external contractor, that is also possible. If you prepare the pad yourself or with a contractor, we cannot be responsible for any settling damage to the shed. Sheds need to have a level surface to maintain their longevity, and fine Amish construction. A stone foundation is the best option for a shed base, but concrete is also a possibility if you would rather have a smooth surface. If you wish for even more stability for your Stoltzfus Structures shed, you may purchase anchor kits, and we can install them so you can avoid that hassle.
Delivery and Shed Removal
As you see your shed on the back of the truck pulling onto your property, you will see a piece of machinery along with it, which makes this process much easier and more efficient. Our crew uses a mule, which is a small machine that moves the shed through tight spaces and around obstacles with ease. The mule is the least likely machine to cause yard damage when the weather allows, but if you are worried about any damage to your yard, let our crews know, and they will place rubber mats to eliminate any tire marks. There are two sets of wheels that are placed on one side of the shed, while the mule goes on the other to pull the shed onto the prepared pad from site preparation.
Do you have an old, falling-apart shed that you are replacing with your brand new Stoltzfus Structures shed? Don’t worry, we can haul that away for you, with our shed removal service, so you don’t have to deal with the hassle of tearing it down and finding where to dump it. Let your sales representative know when ordering if you have an old shed that you wish to be hauled away, and send us a few pictures so we can determine if we can haul it back on the road and provide a quote on the removal cost. The site preparation crew will pull your old shed off its original pad and will prepare the new foundation, then we will deliver the new one and pick up your old shed. Stoltzfus Structures’ goal is to make your life as easy as possible, being a one-stop shop for ordering, site prep, delivery, and removal!
